Newark Historical Society Annual Meeting Tentative Date: TBD
EVENT POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
We're excited to announce that Rein Jelle Terpstra will be the featured guest at our fall meeting.
Rein is a internationally renowned Dutch photographer, artist and professor who spent the last few years traveling the East Coast, including a stop here in Newark, to research U.S. Sen. Robert F. Kennedy's funeral train, which passed the Newark Train Station on June 8, 1968. On board the train was Look Magazine photographer Paul Fusco, who shot photos of the crowds that lined the tracks in each small town between New York and Washington.
Rein sought to complement Fusco's work by collecting photos taken by the everyday citizens who turned out to pay their respect to Sen. Kennedy. He recently published a book, and his photos have been featured in museums in New York, San Francisco and France.
Rein has agreed to travel back to Newark and will present his project and talk about his efforts at our meeting. Final details, including the time and place are still being worked out, but be sure to mark your calendars for Oct. 17. This is an event you won't want to miss!
